Who we are
We are a unit of the Canadian Army Reserve Force with squadrons in Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary, Alberta. Our part-time soldiers specialize in telecommunications and information technology, ready to support the Canadian Army on international and domestic operations. We train on Wednesday nights and approximately one weekend a month.

To join the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve, you must:
- be a Canadian citizen;
- be at least 16 years old; if under 18 years old, have parental consent and be enrolled as a full-time student; and
- have completed at least Grade 10

Do members of the Reserve Force have to go on deployment?

No. Members of the Reserves Force are not required to go on a deployment. However, Reservists have the option to volunteer for deployments if they would like to take part in overseas operations and if there is a need for their skills.

I am a high school or post-secondary student; will the Reserves employ me full-time in the summer, and part time during the school year?
|
Yes, the Reserve Force offers flexible part time employment during the school year (so long as minimum commitments are met). In the first four years in the Reserve Force, you are guaranteed full-time summer employment through the Full Time Summer Employment Program. Contact a recruiter for more details.

If I join the Reserve Force, how long do I have to serve?
|
Service in the Reserve Force is completely voluntary and does not involve a set Term of Service.

How much do Reserve Force members earn?
|
Reserve Force members working part time ("Class A") are paid by the day or half-day. Reserve Force members on a full-time contract ("Class B", such as while taking a course) are paid by the day. As of 2017, the entry-level pay for a Private is $96.06 per day*; this rate increases with rank and experience. The full table of pay rates can be found here.

What are the working hours for Reservists?

Members in the Reserve Force typically work one night per week and one weekend every month.

Will the Reserve Force pay for my education?
|
Education Reimbursement for members of the Primary Reserve provides for the reimbursement of up to 50% with a maximum of $2,000 per Academic Year of education expenses. Only members studying towards a degree or diploma at a Canadian university or college are eligible. The maximum benefit $8,000 per career.
